Original ideas

To begin with I had many different ideas for what I could do as the radio play, as I narrowed down the Genre's, I decided I wanted to do a Drama genre play. I then decided that I wanted to do a murder mystery, where one member of a wealthy family is out to gain all from killing of most of his family members.

  • I wanted the scene to be at the police station where he was getting charged with the crimes, as this should want the audience to find out more of what happened earlier on in the play.
  • The second Idea I had for the script was my main character had kidnapped a member of his family, and holding her for randsom, when the police finally catch up with him.
  • A third idea was to have the scene being set at the Uncle's funeral where Simon and his parents are arguing over the money the Uncle should have left them.

Research into newspaper advertisement

I have been unable to find any newspaper advertisement for the second anicllary task which was the newspaper advertisement. I looked through all the different newspapers, and found there to be none in any of them. Through this I have been able to not complete this task due to the lack of evidence shown in the mass media.

Ancillary task one

Through having  no evidence through newspapers about how they advertise the radio play this gave me, the freedom to experiment with mine while making sure that it linked with the codes and conventions of a newspaper advrtisement.

In the end I decided that I would have the face of Simon on my poster looking like he will come after you if you don't listen to the radio play. This changed from my mock ups as I decided that it needed more words, and it needed to have someone to represent simon using a mid shot. Using the red circle was supposed to conotate the blood that he sheds as it becomes clear in the five minute extract of my radio play.

This shows how much my ideas have changed with the help of my focus group from the drafts of my newspaper advertisement. They have changed for the better, and this has given my newspaper advertisement a unique over view of my radio play. By it being unique it means that it will stand out more to those who are flicking through a newspaper.

Final double page spread magazine feature

From looking at other examples of double page spreads I was able to come up with one of my own seeing all the features that most of them had. I made sure that the features that I had seen regularly on others and the codes and conventions I also used on my own double page spread. By doing this I was able to create something new and unique to my product.

Codes an conventions for double page spread radio play feature

The codes and conventions for the double page spread for my radio play are:
  • For the layout there is a rule of thirds this makes the double page spread look neat and has a clear layout that can be easily followed.
  • It needs to have a footer on the double page spread.
  • The headline is the most important bit as it informs the reader of what the article is about. It tends to be bolder and stands out from the rest of the writing.
  • Drop caps are used so readers know where they begin to read the article.
  • The advertisement: this has all the information about the programme that is going to be on the radio, which will always include the date, time, and where to listen to it. The size of the text needs to be appropriate size in most of the advertisement it tends to be size 10.
  • Images are the main appeal and are what will draw the audience in to listen to the radio play so they have to be eye catching and appealing.
  • The sub heading gives the reader an idea of what the article will be about.

Codes and Conventions for newspaper advertisement

The codes and conventions for newspaper advertisement are:
  • It always has to include one main image

second mock up for review

I had a look at this layout as I had seen one before when researching into the reviews this to me, had a clear layout that was precise and to the point. One that showed that there was minimal information, but enough so that the audience can see what the play is about.
