Third draft of script
OUT TO GET ALL
TIME FOR JUSTICE
JUSTICE IS NIGH
SCENE: 1
(POLICE STATION)
SOUND: Radio fading into the background
DETECTIVE:the interview begins at 13:00 hundred hours, Mr Simon Andrew Ross. you are charged with the murder of twenty family members. how do you plead?
Simon: I plead not guilty. (A wavering voice that doesn't convince the Detective)
DETECTIVE: I am about to show the accused item 1 a piece of clothing we found at the crime scene, where we found the bodies of his father and mother.One of the first scenes we attended to.
VOICE:The sound of Simon's mum cut through: You are guilty and that's all you need to know. Justice is nigh.
SIMON:(HIS FACE VISIBLY PALES) I DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE PIECES OF CLOTHING. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE.
VOICE: Simon's dad's voice comes in Simon you have seen this before, remember and get the justice we deserve. you are a killer Simon. justice is nigh.
Lawyer: DETECTIVE I CALL FOR A BREAK IN THE INTERVIEW MY, CLIENT ISN'T LOOKING TOO WELL.
DETECTIVE: (speaks to the tape) A BREAK IN THE INTERVIEW AT 13:30 HOURS.
VOICE: Simon's Mum's voice: Simon tell the truth it's the only way. no one can live with that sort of guilt. justice is nigh.
SOUND: Door closes before a sound of a tape recorder sounds
DETECTIVE: The interview begins again at 15:00 hours. (A slight pause before continuing.) I am showing Mr Simon Ross item 2. For the use of the tape I am showing Mr Simon a knife that we found at the scene of the crime. the knife had been identified as the murder weapon with both your mum's and dad's blood on. How do you explain this? (before Simon can answer his dad's voice pops into his head again)
SOUND: Wind whistling
VOICE: SIMON'S DAD'S VOICE:SIMON YOU HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE, REMEMBER AND GET THE JUSTICE WE DESERVE. you are nothing but a killer justice is nigh
DETECTIVE: Simon do you recognize this knife?
SIMON: I have only seen this particular knife when my mum has been cooking and using it in the kitchen.
DETECTIVE: (sighs heavily as not getting anywhere) WE FOUND YOUR FINGERPRINTS all over the kitchen. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THAT?
LAWYER: AT THIS TIME I HAVE ADVISED MY CLIENT TO HAVE HIS RIGHT TO NO COMMENT.
VOICE: SIMON'S DAD'S VOICE: SIMON DON'T LET OUR DEATH BE IN VAIN TELL THE TRUTH. YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHY YOUR FINGERPRINTS ARE AROUND THE KITCHEN. justice is nigh.
DETECTIVE: I AM ABOUT TO SHOW MR Ross item 3 that we have found at the second crime scene. For the purpose of the tape recorder I AM SHOWING MR ROSS A PIECE OF CLOTH THAT WE IDENTIFIED TO THE DISEASED UNCLE OF HIS.
SOUND: RUSTLING OF PAPER AS HE PULLS THE BAG FROM A PILE OF OTHER EVIDENCE THAT HAS BEEN COLLECTED.
DETECTIVE: THE ITEM IS A PIECE OF CLOTH THAT IS COVERED IN BLOOD. AFTER WE HAD SENT IT TO THE FORENSIC SCIENTISTS THEY IDENTIFIED IT TO BE FROM THE DEAD BODY WE FOUND IN THE GARDEN.IT HAD FINGERPRINTS OF MR SIMON ROSS ON.
VOICE: mum's VOICE: LET ME HAVE THE JUSTICE THAT we all DESERVE. justice is nigh.
SIMON: MY UNCLE'S DEAD. (SIMON'S VOICE WAVERS) i didn't know. why haven't i been told?
VOICE: SIMON'S UNCLE: DON'T LIE SIMON YOU DON'T DESERVE TO WALK AWAY FROM THIS. YOU KILLED US ALL AND YOU NEED TO GO TO JAIL TO ROT FOR A LONG TIME. justice is nigh.
DETECTIVE: WE KNOW YOU WERE THERE THE DAY YOUR UNCLE WAS KILLED. WE HAVE REPORTS FROM NEIGHBORS saying they saw you about 14:00 hours.
SIMON: I HAVE AN Alibi FOR THAT DAY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HEARING IT.
DETECTIVE: what is your alibi for that day? (Simon turns to his Lawyer who nods at him as if giving her permission)
Simon: I did go around my uncle's house that day, but i didn't go there to murder my uncle. I helped him clear out the attic i was there from ten in the morning till three in the afternoon.
Detective: the Corrina said your uncle's death was around about four o'clock in the afternoon. I am about to show Mr Ross item number 4 a picture that had been taken around about four o'clock by a neighbor when she heard the shouting. the photo shows Mr Ross' car being outside of his uncle's house at that time. i put it to you Mr Ross why was your car at your uncle's house around about that time.
Simon: My lawyer has told me to at this time to play the no comment.
VOICE: simon's uncles voice: all we want is justice simon is that too much to ask for. justice is nigh.
SOUND: A gong being struck
lawyer: i propose a break in the interview so i can continue to speak to my client on my own.
detective: interview suspended at 1900 hours. interview will continue at 10:00 hours tomorrow.
VOICE: in his sleep Simon cries out: leave me alone leave me alone i haven't done anything wrong.
detective: The interview begins on day two at 10:00 hours. i am about to show Mr Ross an item of clothing found where his sister's body was found.
VOICE: Simon's sister's voice: you will never be accepted by our family again you mean nothing to us. You are a traitor and need to be dealt with accordingly. justice is nigh.
Simon: (putting his head in his hands)argh!leave me alone.
Detective: (in a concerned voice at the sudden outburst)Mr ross are you alright?
lawyer: of course he isn't what have you people been doing to him?
detective: (switches of the tape recorder before turning back with a concerned look on his face)Don't blame us Mrs Andrews we have done nothing to him, he was fine this morning and when we got him out of the cell.
SOUND: A GUN SHOT
Simon: get out of my head get out get out get out.
Lawyer: i suggest we take a break. it's obvious my client isn't in the right frame of mind.
detective: (calls to two officers outside) take Mr Ross back to the cells.
Simon: (as he is taken out of the interview room)i don't deserve this i am not a killer!
detective: (speaking to one of his colleges outside the interview room)i think the pressure of this all has got to him.i think his subconsciousness
SOUND: Police sirens (about 30 seconds)
lawyer: (in the cells where Simon has bee taken to, to calm down.) Simon are you alright now? (asking in a concerned voice)
Simon: (stares of into space a slight pause before he answers) why won't they leave me alone why won't they leave me alone?
Lawyer: (concerned voice) Who are these people you are talking about Simon?
Simon: (screams)get away get away none of you are safe!!
lawyer:(backing away towards the cell door) I'm going to go now. You know how to get in contact with me if you need to discuss anything.
Simon: get away your all in peril your all in peril leave now or you will all die like my family did.
SOUND: Gun shots
VOICE: an unknown family member: justice is nigh.
(Switches to the court case)
Judge: Mr Simon Ross i sentence you to life in jail.
A family member: justice at last for: Millie, Andrew, James, Ella, Millie, Edward, Reece, Alex, Ben, Isabella, Lilli, Thomas, Mandy, Samuel, David, Abigail, Tristan, Alec, Sophie and, Alice. rest in peace. you will always be remembered and, always missed.
VOICE:Justice at last. Simon will never be able to live with himself.Poor poor Simon Andrew Ross. he choose the wrong path and strayed from his true destiny.
The third draft of the script I realised that I needed to cut down on the time the play went on for this gave me the chance to be able to go through and delete the lines that I didn't need to have. It was over five minutes before I cut down and, the extract of the radio play had to be five minutes.
